Image Too Large for CD / Fifo Errors

I’m attempting to install ASL_1.01-20180417-amd64-i386-debian-stretch-netinst.iso on an older computer that will not boot from USB. The computer has a CD drive, but not a DVD. Since the iso is too big for a CD, I attempted to first load a Debian image (i386 Buster), hoping to add ASL. The Debian install seemed to go well until the first reboot. At that point, a FIFO underrun error locked up the computer (17.465897 drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [1915] ERROR CPU pipe A FIFO underrun).

Suggestions? I don’t have a spare DVD to replace the CD…

John.

Install Debian and then give this try:

https://wiki.allstarlink.org/wiki/ASL_FAQ#Can_ASL_be_installed_on_an_existing_Linux_install.2C_for_example_on_a_VM_running_Debian.3F

The script may have been moved. It that doesn’t work let me know and I see if I can find where it is these days.

Thanks, Tim. Saw that info in the community forum and that’s the direction I was headed, but I couldn’t get past the fifo errors at the first reboot while installing Debian. The computer had been running Win XP just fine before repurposing as a ASL machine. Needed one with a slot for the Quad card interface that’s been collecting dust for too long.

I polled around eBay and saw some computers that should work for adding $200. Would something like that work for you? Or how about an external USB CD/DVD ROM?

Another thought is maybe there is a BIOS setting that would help with the fifo errors?

Tim and/or others: Stretch still boots with FIFO errors after selecting a different kernal, but at least it doesn’t lock up the computer. The FIFO error message flashes, then boot continues without any additional errors. I was able to download all the ASL files (with no errors reported). Node setup continued normally until I goe to channel driver selection. There’s not an option for the Quad Card (which is the whole reason for trying to set up this 386 machine). Selection I-1 is simple USB, I-2 is USB radio, I-3 is voter, and I-4 is Dahdi/pseudo. Where to from here?

This link says Dahdi/1

Polking around:

I found reference to Zaptel on our WiKi

Thanks for the links, Tim but it’s apparent I’m in way over my head. Going back to where the going is easier with USB devices. If anyone is interested in a Quad radio card, mine’s available.
