Gated PL with usbradio?

Greetings:

I have just been asked by someone if it is possible to gate the TX CTCSS of usbradio such that the tone is sent only on voice, no telemetry. I see that it can respond to and send multiple CTCSS frequencies, though I'm not sure if there is logic for switching tones on a specific event, or what the point of that is.

Basically, the desired behavior is:
Local receiver causes ASL to send CTCSS.
Remote link does the same.
CTCSS is dropped when voice transmission ends, while hangtime continues.

ID's, courtesy tones, announcements, etc. do not send CTCSS to the repeater.

Is this currently possible?

This is a feature of many repeaters and repeater controllers.

I've never personally used this before, but you'll want to look at cop 58 - "Tx CTCSS On Input only Enable".

Thanks, Mason. Tried it, and it works.

It doesn't seem that there is a directive to have this be the default in rpt.conf, though, unless I'm missing something obvious?

When I first enabled this, I got some weird behavior. It seemed like CTCSS would just randomly drop while a transmission was happening. Also, cop 59 didn't seem to disable the gate. Works fine after an Asterisk restart, so I don't know what that's all about.

I'm testing on a simplex node with a 5 second hangtime, which is hardly ideal for anything other than testing purposes.
