Filter in active node list

I Spoke to soon...

I see that there is a filtering function by clicking on any callsign once the list is displayed... NICE
However I find no way to enter the callsign you would like to view without doing a search feature on whatever device you use to view the list.
without scrolling through the list.

Am I missing something?

Larry - N7FM

Larry,

On the nodes list, active (registered) nodes have a link to their stats page. Use the nodes list filter then click the number under the Node column. Will that work for you?

···

Tim WD6AWP

Thanks for that Tim. Maybe I am not saying it correctly...

When you are directed to <http://stats.allstarlink.org/>
The nodes are all active and will provide additional information.
However I find no way to (search/trigger a find) jump to a specific node or callsign without having to scroll until you find what you are looking for. Once found clicking the callsign works neat listing all the nodes owned by that user. Without a search/filter I may have to scroll through a hundred callsigns or scroll to a specific Node number before I can gather any other data.

On <https://web-tpa.allstarlink.org/nodelist/> the Filter allows me to enter call, node number,or city and jump to a list excluding others that don't pertain.

In some browsers use control-F and a text search box will pop up.

you can search for any text on the page.

This is not an Allstar thing but a browser thing.

Thanks Jon,

That is an option. Depending on the browser available at the time.
While the search feature does provide a quick way of finding an individual call or node number it does not function as well as the the "Filter" on the other Allstar node listing but will at least let you find a specific station quickly.

Jump here <https://web-tpa.allstarlink.org/nodelist/> enter a City/state name in the upper right "Filter" box. Like Seattle or someplace you might be traveling through and see the listing that returns... A much more useful function than the search for one individual node.

To me that on a phone or tablet would be most useful when hunting Access or a specific Callsign to connect to when mobile etc.

I guess I don’t understand why the nodes list won’t work as a front end to the stats page.

Just just use the nodes list to find the city or whatever you are looking for then click the node to see the node on the stat page?

···

Tim WD6AWP

Tim you are correct in that it would work if in fact all the links would send people first to <https://web-tpa.allstarlink.org/nodelist/>

You might do a Google search for "allstar nodes" or "allstarlink nodes" just as if you are unfamiliar with Allstar. Choose a link. You will note that the TPA link if shown is at/near the bottom of the list and most likely any searcher will follow one of the links that point to <http://stats.allstarlink.org/> since the TPA link description says...

···

---------------------------------------------------
AllStar Link | Node List - AllStarLink.org

Repeater Controller with VoIP linking for Ham Radio.
----------------------------------------------------

Hmmm Not looking for Repeater controller info... so I'd select another.

Once there imagine yourself being new to Allstar. How from the stats page would you locate nodes in Meridian Idaho without any prior knowledge of callsigns or node numbers at that location. Scrolling/Searching the entire list is the only option from that link unless you already know the information you are seeking.

No doubt this isn't a make or break issue and I will let it die.
My suggestion was merely an attempt to point out a way to make Allstar a bit more user friendly. Your "Filter" like on the nodelist page would provide that function.

Larry,

I appreciate your input on the stats page and I agree it could use a filter or be better integrated with the nodes list. You make a good point about the search results. Once we finally migrate web-tpa to AllStarLink.org (as we’ve been planing for years) the search results should improve. Speaking of new AllStar sites, have you seen our new forum at https://community.allstarlink.org?

···

Tim WD6AWP

Thanks Tim,

I have been following along reading on the new Forum and had activated my account. I just clicked the wrong address in my email program when I brought the Filter subject up. The Forum works great and will be easy to follow ALL or certain subjects. It is like anything takes folks a bit to get use to doing things a little bit different.

As a compliment it is very nice the way you have stepped forward and have been providing much of the feedback lately.
