I upgraded an existing Bookworm server to Asterisk 22.10.1+asl3-3.10.5-1.deb12. After the upgrade, I started seeing "Error loading module 'chan\_voter.so': /usr/lib/x86\_64-linux-gnu/asterisk/modules/chan\_voter.so: undefined symbol: ast\_radio\_tvnow" on startup. I initially wondered if the issue was with my Bookworm installation. I performed a fresh install on Trixie, and when I moved my configurations, I encountered the same error. Web searches yielded no relevant results. When I reverted to stock configurations, there was no error. This prompted the question: why were my configurations suddenly broken? I eventually discovered that I needed to load res\_usbradio.so. I did find the commit, I did not see where it was needed for voter.

I have two requests. First, I suggest a slightly more descriptive error message. My server does not have any USB devices connected, so my practice is to disable any unused or unneeded modules.

Summary:

If you encounter this error in your logs:

Error loading module 'chan\_voter.so': /usr/lib/x86\_64-linux-gnu/asterisk/modules/chan\_voter.so: undefined symbol: ast\_radio\_tvnow

enable res\_usbradio in modules.conf.

As I understand it, res\_usbradio.so is needed for Portaudio support, whether or not you are using any USB devices. So, yes, a more descriptive error message would probably be good here.

The `res_usbradio.so` module should probably be renamed `res_rpt_shared.so` as it [now] contains functions shared by all of the channel drivers.

As for the less than informative error message, that's from asterisk's module loading code .. and all that's know is that there's a missing symbol.

That's fair about the error message. That name for the module would not "trigger" me to disable it.

Thanks, Steve
