I am using the QSOOne application, I want to use it for Allstar, I already have a personal Allstar node that is always active, do I need to apply for a second node number in order to use the app?

WT Mode - No.

Node Mode - Yes (but it doesn't really buy you anything over WT mode in my opinion, unless you leave the phone and app on 24/7 to receive incoming connections)

Standard IAX (he calls it IAX Direct) - Yes, but you're not as likely to use this unless you already have an existing online node.

If someone more knowledgeable in this app knows better, please correct me, but QSO1 basically does the same stuff as DVSwitch and Repeaterphone, etc. and I've been using DVSwitch since about 2018.

I am lost! I I don't know where to look for WT mode, Node mode...

I see in my settings "Allow WebTransceiver/RepeaterPhone/DVSwitch access?" I am assuming I need to enable it....

Do I need to add a new server?

I want to have my main node connected to a local repeater, and be able to monitor and respond, I want to use the QSOOne app (Allstar) and talk on another repeater. Would this mean I need a second node number?

If you already have an existing 1st node sorted out, you can use your phone in WT mode to connect to either your 1st node, or something else (another node). You only need to create another server if you're going to obtain another node number.

All you need for WT Mode to work is your [allstarlink.org](http://allstarlink.org) login credentials, (i.e. your callsign and password). No node number is involved, other than the number you're connecting to. One other thing; if the port number that node is using is non-standard, you'll need to know that, too, but most default to 4569. Ask the node owner if 4569 doesn't work.

FYI, nodes you try to connect to have to have WT access enabled (most do).

Frank has a Discord server for support. I'm sure he's got instructions or a manual of some sort to get you started.

Not to be too blunt about it, but there's little value in having a "node mode" for an app. It actually just makes things more complicated for no significant benefit.

Not always true. I have an older Memoir 10, running QSO One full time sitting in a dock on my work desk. It's 24/7 QSO One with all the features at work.

When I read this I thought, "WTF is a Memoir 10...?"

The first five or six search results I got were a memory foam mattress.

Thanks for the chuckle... evidently an Android PDA.

So that gives you a hub (you still have to connect to other nodes in order to talk to anyone; roughly the equivalent of a cloud hub) but I think the OP's intent is connecting to other nodes as the initial step (as WT Mode is).

Put that aside for a moment.

As to the OP's other question; can you describe this whole scenario in a little more detail? I assume this is a local repeater to you. Does it have an Allstar node already attached to it? Is the node you already have a simplex node?

Use IAX to connect to your existing node.

That's what I'm trying to get at, but I want to feel out what he thinks the use scenario is. Sometimes people expect a simplex node to (directly) connect to a non-internet-connected repeater and have it work like you're talking on a repeater, which it never will.

My only real question is, "Do I need a second node number when using a app... You can use QSO One to connect to and talk on Allstar...

I have a Shari PiHat that I use to connect to other nodes, I usually keep it connected to my favorite repeater....

I also want to use the QSO One app to play around and connect to other nodes while keeping my Shari PiHat active and able to be used.

Its not making sense to me using the same node number for both..

However someone from the QSO One community said I needed a second node number...

I am not going to mark this solved yet, just in case someone has a different answer.

Thank you to everyone who answered!

Hey there,

If your first node number is in use, yes you would need a second node number.

The advantage of node mode is being able to connect to nodes that do not support WT mode.

Not if you're using WT Mode you don't.\*\*

For occasional use, there's no reason to get a fresh node number and use Node Mode. It doesn't really give you any additional functionality if you're only going to be having it on occasionally. I mean you could, but why?

Node mode would also allow your phone to get incoming connections, but by that token you'd have to have the thing on (and QSO1 running) 24/7 to do so.

\*\*I get what you're saying about being able to connect to modes that have WT mode blocked, but they usually have WT mode blocked because they don't want phones connecting. Kind of a middle finger, if you ask me... Not my business to judge, though...

The disadvantage, though, is having to possibly wait many minutes to be able to connect to such nodes due to how ASL's registration server works. That's why with M1KE, I usually recommend using WT mode in all cases except for when it's simply not an option.

Older legacy nodes would probably prefer you use node mode, though, because it's easier to disconnect and/or block those. ASL3 makes that pretty much a moot point.
